We are inviting Expressions of Interest from experienced and motivated perioperative nurses for the key leadership role of After-Hours Theatre Floor Coordinator (CNS 1). This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership pathway role, supported by a strong perioperative leadership team and After-hours Managers, while working collaboratively with Nurse Unit Managers and specialty Clinical Nurse Specialists.
This position plays a critical role in coordinating the operations of our Operating Theatres and Perioperative areas ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical services during evenings.
About the Role
As the After-Hours Theatre Floor Coordinator, you will:
- Oversee the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
- Act as the first point of contact for clinical and operational escalations.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless surgical services and optimal theatre utilisation.
- Support the broader Nurse Unit Management team to maintain operational continuity and patient flow.
A part-time or job-share arrangement will be considered for suitable candidates
Essential Criteria
- Completion of Team Leader Workshop or willing to attend.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Interest in or working towards postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative Nursing.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical and operational support to theatre staff.
- Coordinate theatre activities, including surgical scheduling, patient preparation, and post-operative care.
- Act as the escalation point for clinical and administrative matters after hours.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and support teams to maintain high standards of perioperative care.
- Manage staffing requirements and shift allocation to ensure appropriate coverage.
- Promote a safe, compliant, and supportive work environment aligned with hospital policies and procedures.
- Oversee accurate documentation, incident reporting, and patient records.
- Liaise with other hospital departments to support timely patient flow and emergency case management.
- Mentor and support nursing staff, providing guidance, and performance feedback.
Qualifications & Experience
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum 4 years of clinical experience in a perioperative setting, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Advanced knowledge of perioperative standards, clinical governance, and safety protocols.
- Proven experience in theatre coordination and resource management.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Availability to work a rotating after-hours roster.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a floor coordinator or equivalent role.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative Nursing.
