We are inviting applications from experienced and motivated perioperative nurses for the key leadership role of After-Hours Theatre Floor Manager (NUM 1). This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership role, supported by a strong perioperative leadership team and others After-hours Managers, while working collaboratively with the Nurse Unit Managers and specialty Clinical Nurse Specialists.

This position plays a critical role managing operations of our Operating Theatres and Perioperative areas ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical services during evenings.

About the Role

As the After-Hours Theatre Floor Manager, you will:

  • Oversee the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.
  • Act as the first point of contact for clinical and operational escalations.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless surgical services and optimal theatre utilisation.
  • Support the broader Nurse Unit Management team to maintain operational continuity and patient flow.

A part-time or job-share arrangement will be considered for suitable candidates

Essential Criteria

  • Completion of Team Leader Workshop or willing to attend.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in or working towards postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative Nursing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and operational support to theatre staff.
  • Coordinate theatre activities, including surgical scheduling, patient preparation, and post-operative care.
  • Act as the escalation point for clinical and administrative matters after hours.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and support teams to maintain high standards of perioperative care.
  • Manage staffing requirements and shift allocation to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Promote a safe, compliant, and supportive work environment aligned with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Oversee accurate documentation, incident reporting, and patient records.
  • Liaise with other hospital departments to support timely patient flow and emergency case management.
  • Mentor and support nursing staff, providing guidance, and performance feedback.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum 4 years of clinical experience in a perioperative setting, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of perioperative standards, clinical governance, and safety protocols.
  • Proven experience in theatre coordination and resource management.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Availability to work a rotating after-hours roster.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a floor management or equivalent role.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Perioperative Nursing.
