The Integrated Prosthetics & Reconstruction (IPR) at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is a multifaceted clinical and integrated research program that focusses on digital planning, 3-D printing and the development of implantable and prosthetic devices to assist with restoration of function after head and neck cancer surgery. IPR established clinician-led digital dental laboratory along with the point-of-care computer assisted design and additive manufacturing facility. The IPR offers the design and production of patient specific guides, models, dental prostheses, facial prosthetics, and the development of novel implantable devices. As digital dental technician, you will be part of the innovative clinical team providing digital solutions and technical support for development of digital dental prothesis.

We are looking for an experienced Dental Laboratory Technician who will be responsible for:

  • Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) for dental prosthesis using software, especially 3Shape, Meshmixer, and ImplaStation.
  • Carrying out production and fabrication of digital dental prosthesis and associated products including bridge, obturator, denture, and custom impression tray.
  • Good understanding of 3D printing in dental industry and expertise in handling printers such as Asiga and Formlabs.
  • Familiar with various implant systems.
  • Experience with staining/colour matching and minor corrections.
  • Proficient with milling machines.
  • Liaising with staff in executing the tasks according to the type of restorations, material and design requirements to ensure good workflow.
  • Coordinate tasks according to the number of jobs received on daily basis to achieve optimum and efficient performance.
  • Communicating with clinicians (surgeon and prosthodontists), clinics, and clinical design engineers regarding different concerns when/if the need arises.
  • Carrying out quality control according to the SOP on the finished products
  • Keeping track of supplies and liaising with management and suppliers in regard to the type of instruments or material required for the lab.
  • Documenting and keeping track of cases produced, as well as adhering to industry regulations and safety standards.
  • Keeping informed of advancements in the field of dental laboratory technologies and techniques.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • At least 2-3 years of experience as a Dental Laboratory Technician. 
  • Knowledge of dental prostheses, devices, and related technologies. 
  • Extensive experience in constructing, replacing, repairing, and restoring dental prosthetics, including crowns, bridges, and dentures.
  • Proficiency in dental laboratory computer-aided design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software (Extensive knowledge of 3Shape preferred). 
  • Exceptional manual dexterity and precision. 
  • Superb analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Great communication and collaboration abilities. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
