An opportunity for Speech Pathologists to join a multidisciplinary team in our specialist cancer treatment centre.
Purpose of Position:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Speech Pathologist (Level 1/2) to join the Allied Health team at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse on a part-time temporary contract.
This role provides Speech Pathology services to inpatients and outpatients within a specialist oncology setting, with a primary focus on Head and Neck cancer. The successful applicant will assess and manage patients experiencing communication and/or swallowing difficulties related to cancer and its treatment.
The position will require the applicant to;
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, allied health professionals and integrative medicine practitioners, with the aim of providing benchmarked speech pathology interventions.
- Provide appropriate consultation and intervention for patients experiencing communication and swallowing difficulties in the context of their treatment or diagnosis.
- Provision of appropriate documentation and steps taken to obtain a Medicare provider number to provide outpatient services.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Bachelor or Postgraduate qualification in Speech Pathology (or equivalent).
- Practising membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) or eligibility and willingness to obtain if successful.
- Demonstrated experience in managing communication and swallowing disorders, preferably within surgical and/or radiation oncology using a range of service delivery models.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, or skills in instrumental swallow assessments (e.g. VFSS, FEES).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Strong communication, organisational, and time-management skills.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement.
Desirable
- Experience supervising students or contributing to teaching and training activities.
- Previous experience working in acute or specialist hospital settings.
