The Role

Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is seeking expressions of interest from experienced and motivated nurses to join our management team as Nursing Unit Manager for the Day Surgery Unit and Preadmission Clinic.

This position presents an excellent opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience, contribute to service excellence, and expand your expertise in clinical and operational management. 

The Nursing Unit Manager will provide leadership and operational oversight of the Day Surgery Unit and Preadmission Clinic, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient‑centered care. The role requires strong clinical knowledge, effective team management, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to achieve high‑quality outcomes. 

Essential Criteria or Willingness to Learn:

  • Extensive clinical experience in perioperative nursing or related setting. 
  • Proven leadership and management skills, including the ability to inspire, mentor, and support nursing staff. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage resources (staffing, equipment, and budgets) to ensure safe and efficient service delivery. 
  • Experience in quality improvement and risk management, including monitoring clinical outcomes and implementing evidence‑based practice. 
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic, high‑volume environment while maintaining patient safety and staff wellbeing. 
  • Sound knowledge of relevant policies, standards, and accreditation requirements in preadmission and day surgery services. 
  • Commitment to professional development, continuous improvement, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
